White Mountain NDWMIMH411 4-Quart Wooden-Bucket Manual Hand-Crank Ice-Cream Maker

Don't buy.
After reviewing all of the reviews I was hoping that the reviews about the metal shavings getting into the ice cream was just a problem with one or two machines. Unfortunately I encountered the same thing. Who wants to eat ice cream contaminated with metal shavings from the gears? I am shocked White Mountain hasn't fixed this negligent flaw after all the reviews over the past couple of years. Do not purchase this machine unless you like eating metal with your ice cream.

big mistake in design
i wanted a hand crank style ice cream maker like i remember my dad using when i was a child. i ordered this one and it is great except for one huge design flaw. there is no latch to attach the moving parts (handle, agitator, etc.) to the bucket. as you crank, it just flops around and as the ice cream thickens, it takes two people. one to crank the handle and a second person to hold the main unit. there needs to be a locking mechanism to hold it tight. we have to cram wooden spoon handles in and wedge it and it still takes 2 people to hold it while cranking. i called the company and told them something was wrong, thinking i got a faulty one. they said "no, there is no locking latch anymore." i was very disappointed. whatever engineer got rid of the latch needs to have his head examined. if it werent for this design flaw, i would give it 5 stars.

Great ice-cream
This maker is awesome. I make my mix the day before so it gets nice and cold and then it only takes 15 to 20 minutes for great ice-cream. I have found that the ice-cream doesn't get so hard and form crystals after a few days in the freezer if you put just a tad bit of rum in the mix.
